2000-2009

During the final full decade of the school, Lafayette’s music program was founded and grew into a thriving and integral part of the school environment. Students in the orchestra would stay after school for practice led by Mr. Weible and Ms. Bistrow (through the Merit School of Music). In the mid 2000s during Dr. Orduz (principal) Dr. Vasquez’s (Vice Principal) final year before their retirement, Lafayette returned to going up to 8th grade instead of 6th grade for the first time since the mid 20th century. This not only increased student enrollment at the time, but allowed students to graduate Middle School from Lafayette instead of transferring to other schools after 6th grade.
