2010-2013
In the final few years of Lafayette Elementary, the school continued to be a thriving community contrary to CPS’ claims of being “underutilized”. During this time Lafayette continued to provide one of the strongest orchestral string programs for a neighborhood elementary school in the entire city. The majority of classrooms were utilized and the strong community of Diverse Learners educators provided students with a high quality, well-rounded education. In early 2013, over 5 murals were painted throughout the school by volunteers, just months before the closure.
