1993 Lafayette School Read-In
As Lafayette opened in 1893, 1993 was the 100-year anniversary of the school. Teachers and staff organized a reunion that year to celebrate the 100 years of the school. With this came a collaborative project in partnership with University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and The Chicago Tribune to create the “Lafayette School Read-In” to honor the 100 years of history. This newspaper included poems, artworks and stories about what life was like in 1993. Thanks to Ms. Ramos for holding onto her copy and allowing us to borrow it to document to ensure the permanent preservation of the 120-page time capsule. Be transported back to 1993 and explore this historic, community-made document.
